A Sudden Teaser Revision

Bollywood fans were super excited to witness the release of Ajay Devgn’s upcoming film, Chauhaan, through the title announcement video on June 25. To mark the birthday of his legendary father Veeru Devgan, the actor released the video, which was supposed to be a celebratory one.

However, the viewers recently expressed their concerns over a particular edit in the YouTube video, which has recently gone viral.

The Kashmir Depiction Backlash

The controversy stemmed from the film’s premise, featuring the actor as an army officer in Kashmir.

Right after the teaser’s release, the makers received immense backlash over the doctored portrayal of the region, with many Kashmiri activists criticizing the inclusion of the stone-pelting incidents, believing that the sensitive issue was not treated with due diligence on the filmmakers’ end.

Zeeshan Ayyub’s Voice Replaced

The first edit that caught the viewers’ attention was the complete absence of Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub’s voice in the revised version of the teaser.

In addition, another actor dubbed the portions previously read by Ayyub, fueling industry rumors about the actor’s potential exit from the film. However, the actor’s representatives and the makers of Chauhaan have yet to officially confirm the speculation.

Military Rank Alterations

Apart from the changes in the actors’ voices, the new version of the teaser video noticeably omitted the military-related content. More precisely, the creative team revised the military rank of one of the characters, changing ‘Major’ to ‘Colonel’.

The reason for such editing was apparent, as well – right after the teaser’s initial release, numerous Kashmiri activists voiced their disapproval on social media over the supposedly inflammatory language used in the film.

While editing the contents of the teaser video, the producers of Chauhaan have unintentionally triggered a more significant protest.

Namely, the Kshatriya Parishad organization strongly objected to the film’s title, claiming that it disrespected the Rajput community by falsely attributing the name Chauhan to it.

The Rajput Identity Debate

The Kshatriya Parishad representatives openly criticized Ajay Devgn’s decision to utilize the Rajput clan name for commercial gain, accusing him of attempting to undermine the community by resorting to cheap tactics and promoting contemporary communal politics.

Moreover, they stated that it was unfair to use the name of any respected and ancient Rajput clan for political purposes to gain publicity.

The YouTube Discrepancy

Nevertheless, despite the producers’ efforts to revise the content of the teaser video, the initial, unrevised version continued to circulate around social media platforms. In fact, it was still available for viewing on several websites.

Consequently, the discrepancy in the content between the two versions of the teaser video only contributed to the public’s increasing interest and involvement in the controversy.

Regardless of the controversy surrounding its release, the film promises to be a thrilling action-packed project, developed to highlight the Indian army’s efforts in the face of social unrest and violence.
