A Passion for Cleaning and Shopping

Preparations for Diwali begin with cleaning the house. Yami says that saying goodbye to old things was as fun as browsing the shops selling new home decor, kitchen utilities, and sweets.

“Everything felt new; there was excitement hidden in every corner,” she recalls with a smile.

Discovering Family Traditions

Yami’s family’s festive traditions come straight from her grandmother’s stories.

These include lighting a line of diyas on Dhanteras, performing puja on Chhoti Diwali, and making rangoli with rice paste.

His mother would hand-draw the feet of Goddess Lakshmi without a stencil, and then everyone would be delighted to be the Rahnuma of that rangoli.

For little Vedavid, Diwali is all about lights and fireworks. Yami says that just seeing the sparkle in his eyes makes his day.

Building a small mud house and decorating it in the puja room, filling the temple with sweets—Vedavid puts in his part in every step, even if it’s just shaking mud on the floor!

Deep Bond with Aditya

Yami and her husband, filmmaker Aditya Dhar, share the same fundamental values. Both want David to experience the same values ​​and traditions they received.

“We both feel it’s important to stay rooted in those values,” Yami says, “because the children’s first Diwali has a profound impact on their lives.”

Amidst the Diwali celebrations, Yami’s film calendar is also quite packed. Five upcoming releases are lined up, with Supan Verma’s courtroom drama Haq, starring Emraan Hashmi, being the closest release.

“I’m grateful that people’s love is increasing,” she shares, “and this festive season brings new hope for my career.”
