Turtle Walker documentary by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti opens the ALTEFF 2025 environmental film festival.

Next year’s All Living Things Environmental Film Festival (ALTEFF) will begin with a very special documentary.
This film, titled “Turtle Walker,” will be the opening film of the festival, which runs from December 4 to 14, 2025.
Produced by Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, the film has already received critical acclaim at prestigious film festivals around the world.
Dedicated his life to turtles
This film tells the remarkable story of Satish Bhaskar, who began his work conserving sea turtles in the 1970s by traveling along the coasts of India.
He lived among these rare species, studying their lives and working to save them from extinction. This is director Taira Malaney’s debut film, which redefines our relationship with the ocean and its creatures.
Global Honors
“Turtle Walker” has won several major awards to date. This includes the “Grand Teton” Award at the Jackson Wild Media Awards, considered the highest honor for environmental filmmaking.
The film also received a special screening at the United Nations Ocean Conference, reflecting its seriousness and importance.

Festival Director Kunal Khanna said, “It’s an honor to open the festival with this film.” Zoya Akhtar described it as “a silent yet powerful struggle of an ordinary person.”
