Opening weekend setback
Sonakshi Sinha’s new film ‘Nikita Roy‘ has flopped badly at the box office.
Despite a hefty budget of Rs 25 crore, the film failed to earn even Rs 1 crore in its first three days – a shocking performance that has left the industry stunned.
Three-film clash
Three big films hit the theatres simultaneously on July 18: Sonakshi Sinha’s ‘Nikita Roy’, newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s ‘Saiyaara’, and Anupam Kher’s ‘Tanvi The Great’.
Of these, Mohit Suri’s ‘Saiyaara’ emerged as the clear winner, leaving ‘Nikita Roy’ struggling despite Sonakshi’s star power.
Day-by-day breakdown
The numbers tell a painful story. According to data from SacNilc:
- Day 1: Just Rs 22 lakh
- Day 2: Slight improvement to Rs 24 lakh
- Sunday (Day 3): Slight increase to Rs 40 lakh
This brings the total domestic collection for the entire opening weekend to just Rs 86 lakh.
Global figures are not good either
The picture is not good globally either. Worldwide, ‘Nikita Roy’ managed to collect just Rs 97 lakh in three days.
With such a poor performance, the film may soon be pulled from theatres.

Budget vs Reality
What makes this failure particularly shocking is the film’s budget of Rs 25 crore.
Failing to recover even Rs 1 crore in its opening weekend, ‘Nikita Roy’ has quickly made its way into the list of the biggest box office failures of 2025.
Release date drama
Originally scheduled to release on June 27, ‘Nikita Roy’ was pushed to July 18 due to screen availability issues.
The delay did the film no favours as it faced stiff competition from ‘Saiyaaraa’, which won over audiences despite a relatively unknown cast.
Star power failed to save it
Directed by Kush Sinha, ‘Nikita Roy’ had a strong ensemble cast including Sonakshi Sinha, Paresh Rawal and Arjun Rampal.
Unfortunately, even this impressive lineup failed to draw audiences to the theatres, proving once again that star power alone does not guarantee box office success.
