Sharmila Tagore performed a feat alone in Delhi traffic, and Soha told a funny story.

Enthusiasm remains the same at 80
Sharmila Tagore, even at 80, seems as vibrant and fearless as ever.
Her daughter, Soha Ali Khan, recounted an anecdote on Nayandeep Rakshit’s podcast that reveals that Sharmila is not bound by age.
This anecdote isn’t just a prank, but a small testament to her independence and agility.
Taking on Delhi Traffic
Soha explained that her mother lives alone in Delhi and refuses to move to Mumbai.
Once, while attending a book launch, her car got stuck in Delhi’s traffic congestion.
Sharmila got out of the car and stopped a stranger’s scooter, asking her to drop her off a short distance away.
She then walked half the way, even hopped on a bike in between, to reach the event on time.
Soha laughs, “Amma, you’re 80 years old, and this is Delhi!” Sharmila calmly explains that the same person dropped her off halfway, and she thought it best to walk the rest of the way.
Unwavering Spirit and Ease
This story is not only funny but also shows Sharmila’s ease and self-reliance.
Whether it’s traffic or the pressure of an event, she handles situations with a light heart instead of fighting them.
Soha’s description shows that age is just a number—the true measure of vitality is reflected in her work and decisions.
Return to Films and Challenges Ahead
After an 18-year hiatus, Sharmila made her comeback with Suman Ghosh’s Bengali film Puratawn, which earned her critical acclaim and a good gross.
Her next film hasn’t been announced yet, but Soha says her mother sometimes says she’ll stop working, but then gets excited after seeing a script.
This means she has a comfortable relationship with both work and rest.
Soha’s film career hasn’t stopped either.
Soha has also returned to films and the web; she recently starred in Chhorii 2 and will next be seen in a thriller like Bridge.
The Soha-Sharmila duo exemplifies the diversity and new energy of a family, where the mother’s agility and the daughters’ dynamic work go hand in hand.
This short story by Sharmila Tagore reminds us that confidence and passion transcend the barriers of age, and true style is that which makes its way without any fuss.
