Why was Shahid kapoor’s Shivaji film cancelled?

AMIT RAI’s project closed despite a 180 crore hit SHAHID KAPOOR’s film, director raises questions on the system.

What was supposed to come in the form of SHAHID KAPOOR‘s stunning portrayal of the Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj has now been shelved.

The project, to be directed by “OMG 2” fame director AMIT RAI, has been shelved, leaving the director clearly disappointed.

“The system is too cruel”

In an open chat with Mid-Day, RAI didn’t hide his disappointment: “The system is too cruel.

Even if you have proven your talent with a Rs 180 crore film like OMG 2, it’s still not enough.

How is a director supposed to work within this casting, production, star and management system?”

Years of work gone in minutes

RAI explained how devastating this process can be: “You live with a story for five years.

And then in a matter of minutes, someone writes a five-page write-up, telling what’s wrong and what’s right in the film.”

His words highlight the painful reality that many filmmakers face when their ambitious projects collapse.

Competing Shivaji Projects

According to reports, the film was going to be produced by Telugu filmmaker DIL RAJU, with SHAHID already attached.

However, things got complicated when RITEISH DESHMUKH announced his own film “Raja Shivaji”, which is also based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Star-studded Competition

RITEISH’s project isn’t just competing – it’s coming in strong.

Not only will RITEISH be directing the film, but he will also play the lead role.

The cast includes big names like ABHISEK BACHCHAN, SANJAY DUTT, MAHESH MANJREKAR, FARDEEN KHAN and GENELIA D’SOUZA.

Success does not guarantee security

RAI’s disappointment is particularly painful because his previous film, “OMG 2” starring AKSHAY KUMAR, was a huge hit, grossing over 200 crores worldwide.

Yet this success could not secure the future of his Shivaji project with SHAHID.

VICKY KAUSHAL’S SUCCESS

This cancellation comes at a time when another Maratha warrior film, “Chhava”, starring VICKY KAUSHAL as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj (Shivaji’s son), is doing exceptionally well at the box office.

This success has likely influenced decisions around competing historical projects.
