Star-studded film inching slowly towards the Rs 20 crore mark
Anurag Basu’s much-anticipated film ‘Metro In Dino‘ is not setting the box office on fire.
The spiritual follow-up to 2007’s ‘Life In A Metro’ hit theatres on July 4, but is moving at a snail’s pace in reaching the Rs 20 crore milestone.
Big blow on Monday
After a slow start and a marginal rise over the weekend, Monday brought bad news.
The collections dropped to just Rs 2.50 crore on the fourth day, taking the total figure to Rs 19.25 crore – close to the 20 crore mark, yet still far away.
Budget vs Reality Check
Here’s the shocking thing – the film reportedly cost Rs 85 crore to make.
With theatre seats sitting empty (just 15.66% filled on Sunday), the makers are now offering tickets for Rs 99 for Tuesday’s show, in a desperate attempt to boost numbers.
Star-studded cast
The film has serious star power with Neena Gupta, Anupam Kher, Konkona Sen Sharma, Pankaj Tripathi, Sara Ali Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Ali Fazal and Saswata Chatterjee.
Yet somehow, all these big names have not resulted in big figures.

Modern love stories across India
‘Metro In Dino’ traces contemporary relationships against the landscape of India’s major metropolises – Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Bengaluru.
The film aims to capture the complexities of modern love and heartbreak.
Musical reunion
On the brighter side, the film reunites director Anurag Basu with music guru Pritam.
Their previous collaborations (‘Gangster’, ‘Barfi!’, ‘Life In A Metro’, ‘Jagga Jasoos’, and ‘Ludo’) had delivered memorable soundtracks.
Production Powerhouse
The film comes from heavyweight producers Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Anurag Basu, and Taani Basu, with backing from Gulshan Kumar’s T-Series and Anurag Basu Productions.
Will ‘Metro In Dino’ pick up pace in the days to come? Only time will tell if this star-studded journey will reach its destination or derail at the box office.
