Major Mohit Sharma’s parents have sought a stay on the release of Ranveer Singh’s film Dhurandhar.

Allegation
Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar’s upcoming film ‘Dhurandhar‘ is already embroiled in its biggest controversy to date.
Imagine making a film on a martyr of the country and then keeping his elderly parents in the dark?
Similar serious allegations have been leveled by the family of Ashoka Chakra awardee, the late Major Mohit Sharma, who has now approached the Delhi High Court seeking justice.
Allegations of stealing the story without permission
Major’s family says that after watching the trailer and promotional material, it’s clear that the film is based on their son’s life, his undercover missions, and the Kashmir operations.
Their anger stems from the fact that the producers neither contacted the family nor sought their permission for such a major project.
In the petition, they state with great emotion that “a martyr is not a commercial commodity” that you can exploit without truth and permission simply for profit. This is a direct violation of their sentiments.
National Security and Privacy Concerns
The issue isn’t limited to the family’s displeasure; it also involves national security.
The petition claims that the film depicts extremely sensitive military tactics and infiltration methods. The biggest question raised is whether the script was approved by the Indian Army’s ADGPI branch.
The family argues that showing such material without approval violates their privacy and the Major’s personality rights under Article 21.
Makers and the Government Surrounded
In this legal battle, the family has named Director Aditya Dhar and Producer Jio Studios as defendants, as well as the Information and Broadcasting Ministry and the Censor Board (CBFC).
The petition, filed through advocates at Samanta Law Firm, demands that the film’s release be immediately halted until the family is shown a private screening.
What will happen next?
The family’s demand is clear—they want the court to establish a rule mandating the approval of any real-life military hero’s legal heirs and the Army before making a film on them.
All eyes are now on the hearing scheduled for next week. It will be interesting to see whether “Dhurandhar” will reach theaters or become entangled in legal complications.
