Mandakini, who made her Bollywood debut with Raj Kapoor’s film ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ in 1985, became a star overnight.

Her pairing with Rajiv Kapoor was loved by the audience.

But behind this shine were some experiences that even the biggest stars had to face.

Hero’s rule prevailed

Mandakini told in an old interview that in the 80-90s, the film industry was completely male-dominated.

Often, the hero used to decide which heroine would work with him.

If a hero did not like an actress or had a disagreement with her on some matter, then the producer and director would immediately sign another actress.

“It happened to me too”

When she was asked if she also experienced the same, Mandakini admitted, “Yes, it happened to me twice when I was removed just because a big actor did not like working with me.”

For just Rs 25,000…

Despite being at the peak of success, Mandakini had to struggle for work.

She shared an interesting anecdote – a producer narrated the script to her and she agreed.

But after a few days it was suddenly announced that someone else had been cast in the film.

Reason? Mandakini was asking for Rs 1 lakh for this film, while the other actress agreed for Rs 75,000. She lost the film for just Rs 25,000.
