Vivek Oberoi raises the question: Will Shah Rukh Khan’s stardom become history in the future?

Fame
We often hear that the intoxication of stardom and the glamour of fame in Bollywood are not permanent. But can you ever imagine that people could forget one of the world’s biggest superstars, Shah Rukh Khan?
Vivek Oberoi recently said something that has sparked a new debate on social media and in the film industry. In an interview with Pinkvilla, Vivek discussed the temporary nature of fame, saying that time waits for no one.
Who will people call in 2050?
Vivek stated that the person we call a superstar today may not even be recognized tomorrow. He made a bold claim, saying, “In 2050, people will say who is Shah Rukh Khan, maybe.”
He believes that just as many stars of the 1960s are no longer remembered, the luster of today’s icons may also fade in the coming decades.
This may sound a bit harsh, but according to Vivek, it’s an unavoidable truth about stardom.
Raj Kapoor’s Great Example
To reinforce his point, Vivek mentioned Raj Kapoor, known as the ‘God’ of cinema. He said that while we and you may worship Raj Kapoor, today’s Gen-Z probably won’t even know him well.
He said, “If you ask a fan of Ranbir Kapoor, they might not recognize Raj Kapoor.” Vivek argues that history gradually reduces even the biggest names to nothingness.
SRK’s charisma remains intact
Vivek’s philosophical words are valid, but the statistics tell a different story. In 2023, Shah Rukh Khan demonstrated that he remains a strong contender, earning 2600 crore rupees at the box office with Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunky.
His upcoming film King, directed by Siddharth Anand, is already generating buzz. Stars like Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, and Abhishek Bachchan will be seen in this film, which shows that SRK’s magic hasn’t faded yet.
Legacy Battle and New Projects
Not just on the big screen, SRK will soon be seen making a cameo in his son Aryan Khan’s debut Netflix series The Bads of Bollywood.
Vivek Oberoi’s comments have certainly raised questions about legacy and cultural memory, but the place SRK has created over the last 30 years doesn’t seem easy to erase.
Will the world really forget King Khan? Only time will tell, but for now, he rules everywhere.
