The death rumour that shook everyone
In 1995, during the shooting of “Raghuveer”, a strange rumour spread like wildfire – Shilpa Shirodkar has been shot dead.
It wasn’t just whispered in film circles; it made headlines in newspapers, creating panic among her family and fans.
The truth? It was all a publicity stunt for the film.
The call that never went through
In a recent heart-to-heart chat with Pinkvilla, Shilpa recalled that she was completely unaware of her own “death”.
“I was shooting with Suniel Shetty in Kullu Manali.
My father was constantly trying to call the hotel as we didn’t have mobile phones at that time,” she revealed.
Meanwhile, confused onlookers present at the shoot were wondering if they were seeing a ghost!
Panic at home
The situation turned serious when Shilpa returned to her hotel room and found “about 20-25 missed calls” from her worried parents.
A newspaper headline announced in bold letters, “Shilpa Shirodkar shot”, leaving her family in complete shock.
Marketing that went overboard
When the film’s producer finally explained that it was all a promotional strategy, Shilpa’s reaction was surprisingly restrained.
“When they told me, I said ‘ok’. Yes, it was a bit too much,” she admitted.
The actress pointed out that in those days, PR activities were not common, and permission was not usually sought from stars before such stunts were pulled.

No resentment
Despite the excessive nature of the prank, Shilpa holds no grudge.
“The film did well, so I wasn’t really offended,” she revealed, showing remarkable understanding for an act that is considered an extreme breach of morality today.
What’s next for Shilpa
After her recent performance in Bigg Boss 18, Shilpa is now preparing for her silver screen comeback in “Jatadhara”, a pan-India supernatural thriller.
Centered around the mysterious Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple, the film stars Sudheer Babu in the lead role and marks Sonakshi Sinha’s debut in a Telugu-Hindi bilingual project.
This supernatural mystery blends suspense and mythological elements, with Shilpa playing a pivotal role that fans have been eagerly waiting for.
It’s a fitting comeback for an actress who once had to reassure everyone that she was alive at all!
