Sunil Darshan, who has worked with the Kapoor family for a long time, told that there was a rift in the relationship between Karisma and Sunjay from the beginning.

According to him, Karisma had consciously decided to leave Bollywood stardom and become a housewife.

She wanted a quiet family life away from the glitz of the film world.

“This was not her world”

According to Darshan, Karisma did not want to be a part of Delhi’s high-society lifestyle. He said, “She was put in a world that was not hers.

Delhi has its own culture, and she was not able to fit in it. She lived in a royal house, had innumerable cars, but this was not her world.”

Role of “Trophy Wife”

Sunil Darshan also pointed out that Karisma was probably seen as a “trophy wife” rather than a person.

Her identity and values probably did not match the expectations of the family she married into.

From marriage to divorce

Karisma and Sunjay got married in 2003 and divorced in 2016.

During this time they had two children – daughter Samaira and son Kian. After the divorce, Sunjay married Priya Sachdev.

Sudden death

Sunjay Kapoor died suddenly in June 2025. He suffered a cardiac arrest due to an allergic reaction after accidentally swallowing a bee during a polo match in the UK.

Karisma attended Sunjay’s funeral in New Delhi along with her sister Kareena Kapoor and brother-in-law Saif Ali Khan.

Simplicity-loving Karisma

Karisma always wanted to live a simple life. Away from the glamour of the film world, she wanted to live a normal life.

But perhaps there was a huge difference between her dreams and reality.

Today, Karisma is living a happy life with her children and is also managing her career.

By facing every challenge in life, she has proved that she is indeed a strong woman.
