Kanika Kapoor’s revelation: Singers in India get only ₹101 as fees without royalty or pension.

“Rare” fee of 101 rupees
In the show Bunk with Urfi, ‘Baby Doll’ singer Kanika Kapoor revealed the truth of the music industry, which no one told clearly.
She showed her contracts to Urfi Javed and told that only ₹101 is paid for the rights of the songs.
Hearing this, all the singers and music lovers were stunned.
Lack of royalty and pension
Kanika clearly said that there is no system of royalty in India.
Even if your song becomes a superhit, the payment is only ₹101 for one time. Along with this, there is no trace of pension plan.
Even today in the industry, artists are seen doing favors to the elders, whereas they should get respect, not bankset.
Reliance on earning only on live shows
When nothing comes from recordings, live shows become the main source of income for singers.
Kanika says that she gets paid only as long as she is able to sing on stage.
If she suddenly has a health issue or loses the power of voice, there is no guarantee of a pension.
In such a situation, it becomes necessary to get a good fee and contract clause for every show.
Kanika Kapoor’s own story
Kanika got recognition in all directions when ‘Baby Doll’ became a hit in 2014.
After this, songs like ‘Chittiyan Kalaiyan’, ‘Lovely’, ‘Desi Look’ and ‘Beat Pe Booty’ became hits.
But despite all these great tracks, she also got a basic payment of just ₹ 101.
Thinking that even the biggest names in the industry are not able to get the right fee, Kanika’s confidence is shaken.
Need for change in the industry
If royalty structure, pension plan and right contract clauses are not introduced in today’s industry, then new talents will not be able to survive here.
It is important that record labels, music publishers and governing bodies come together to bring a transparent payment system.
Otherwise, the artists who give voice to songs in films will one day be left hungry for their own songs.
Kanika Kapoor’s debate made it clear that the music industry should not be judged only by glamour or hit songs, but by the rights and rewards of the artists.
Only then will the true talent in this field be recognized and singers will also be able to sing with respect.
