Ibrahim Ali Khan’s Journey from wood to wax!

Ibrahim Ali Khan’s journey from debut film ‘Nadaniyaan’ to ‘Sarzameen’, story of improvement in acting

Ibrahim Ali Khan failed to see the new hope

Have you watched Ibrahim Ali Khan’s films? From his first film ‘Nadaniyaan’ to now ‘Sarzameen’, how much has his journey changed!

Let’s know how the star kid surprised everyone in his second film.

‘Nadaniyaan’ – The start everyone would want to forget

This Dharma Production film on Netflix sank Ibrahim’s career as soon as it started.

Do you remember the shirtless monologue in which he was giving a speech on fiscal deficit?

Or that cringe dialogue – “You are so hot that you are probably the reason for global warming.”

Wooden acting, mismatched dubbing and a weird script – everything was a mess! It seemed as if even IKEA shelves could learn acting from Ibrahim!

‘Sarzameen’ – A new ray of hope

When ‘Sarzameen’ released, expectations were absolutely sky high. But wow!

What a thing! Ibrahim was the only ray of light in this dark and emotionally hollow film.

Directed by Kayoze Irani, Ibrahim played Harman/Haris – a young man torn between two countries, loyalties and his own identity.

His stutter, which earlier seemed like just a narrative trick, now becomes a medium to show internal conflict.

Prithviraj’s support – a big deal

Prithviraj Sukumaran himself said that ‘Sarzameen’ should have been Ibrahim’s first film.

To receive such praise from a seasoned actor is no small feat!

Ibrahim made his presence felt in scenes with Prithviraj – no small achievement!

Finding light in the darkness

The biggest problem with ‘Sarzameen’ was its dark filming.

The film, shot in a beautiful place like Kashmir, was so dark that in many scenes it seemed as if the power had gone off!

The film tackles several subjects at once – the Kashmir insurgency, the broken father-son relationship, the identity crisis – but doesn’t touch upon any of them in depth.

Kajol’s magic fades

Even veteran actress Kajol fades in this film. She has nothing much to do in the role of Meher except to cry and whine.

Her chemistry with Prithviraj also didn’t work.

In the end…

Ibrahim Ali Khan has shown that he has the ability to improve by travelling from ‘Nadaniyaan’ to ‘Sarzameen’.

If he continues in this direction, hopefully, he can become a better actor.

Just next time, someone please give the lighting team a ring light!
