In Homebound Premiere, Janhvi Kapoor opened her heart on privilege, empathy and humanity.

Janhvi Kapoor’s revelation: “Humans Are So Mean”
When the red carpet of TIFF50 lit up, the entry of Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor caught everyone’s attention.
Their film Homebound not only raised questions on country-based issues, but Janhvi also put forward her deep thoughts on humanity in front of everyone.
Felt responsible at TIFF50
Janhvi said in the interview, “Humans are so mean. It is worth understanding human nature.”
In front of the camera, she looked ashamed of how many things she had left unknown in life.
“I realized how lucky I was to be under the burden of privilege, and this film really made me responsible towards myself.”
The script shook my heart
When Janhvi got the script of Homebound for the first time, she called director Neeraj Ghaywan on the phone while sitting in the car and cried.
“I just wanted to be a part of this story,” she said.
Later, she became obsessed with reading about where we come from and why we want to isolate people.
The harsh reality of humanity
The film showed how humans are inborn to discriminate—be it caste, religion, or looks.
“It’s not just our system; people differentiate in school beatings or grades. It has become part of human nature,” Janhvi said.
This realization made her more empathetic and aware.
The story of Homebound
Neeraj Ghaywan’s film is set in a north Indian village, where two childhood friends—Shoab (Ishaan Khatter) and Chandan (Vishal Jethwa)—aspire to become cops.
They want to escape their caste and religious challenges, but their friendship is also tested when their exam results are delayed.
The film delves deep into caste, religion and the political problems of rural India.
Cast and production of the film
Homebound is made under the banner of Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Mentor Disciple Entertainment.
Neeraj Ghaywan’s dicta story, Ishaan-Khatter–Vishal–Janhvi’s strong performances and Martin Scorsese’s executive producing touch make it special.
Somen Mishra, Apoorva Mehta, and Adar Poonawalla also added their names to this project.
Homebound Premiere proved that not only glamour, but films make us face ourselves.
This deep experience of Janhvi Kapoor reminds us all that we can really become better by seeing and understanding the bitter picture of humanity.
