Arjun Kapoor spoke openly about mental health

Arjun said, COVID allowed me to recognize my true nature

Arjun Kapoor has been speaking many times these days about mental health awareness.

He spoke about his journey at the recent FICCI Young Leaders Summit in Mumbai. He said that the global lockdown due to COVID-19 was a turning point for him.

The world suddenly stopped, and that silence showed him a new perspective.

He realized that he had been completely ignoring his feelings and mental well-being for years. This was the moment when he heard his inner voice.

mother’s death and the success of ‘Ishaqzaade’

Sharing a heartbreaking story, Arjun recalled the grief of his mother, Mona Shourie Kapoor, passing away in 2012. That period was very conflicting for him.

On one hand, his first film, ‘Ishaqzaade,’ was released and he became an overnight star, but on the other hand, he was losing his mother. He admitted that he was running away from his pain.

He was celebrating and crying at the same time. This combination of fame and grief overwhelmed him immensely.

Losing 50 kg was a mental battle too

Arjun also spoke openly about his obesity battle. He said that it took him four years to lose 50 kg. It wasn’t just a physical battle; it was also a mental one.

He said that he had his mother’s full support throughout this journey, but not everyone has such support.

When you lose your biggest support system at 25, nothing in the world can shake you.

“Don’t Hide Your Emotions”

Arjun addressed the young audience directly, saying that mental health should be prioritized.

Talking about therapy, he said that vulnerability isn’t a bad thing, but rather, it’s a matter of courage.

Accepting your feelings and expressing them is true strength. Therapy is a safe place where you can open up your innermost feelings, which makes you feel empowered and sensible.

He urged everyone to talk to those around them whenever they go through such a phase in life, because feeling alone is the biggest mistake.
