Our very own Bollywood legend, Anupam Kher, recently had a reunion that took fans back to 2002.

He met with director Gurinder Chadha, who directed the iconic sports comedy film, Bend It Like Beckham.

Notably, this film was Anupam Kher’s first English-language project!

Bhambra and Gurinder’s Friendship

Gurinder Chadha shared a cute video on her Instagram on Monday (October 13). In the video, she is seen sitting at the actor’s home.

She delighted fans of ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ right at the beginning of the clip. She said, “All Beckham fans, remember Mr. Bhambra?

Jess Bumrah’s cool, whiskey-loving father? Look how happy I am with him.”

Afterward, when Gurinder introduced Anupam Kher into the frame, the two embraced, expressing their friendship and happiness.

“You introduced me to English films.”

Anupam Kher thanked Gurinder, saying that it was because of him that he made his first English film, and after that, he worked extensively in international projects.

Gurinder jokingly said that even after 23 years, Anupam Kher hasn’t changed a bit.

But the most interesting thing about this meeting was an anecdote Gurinder shared.

He explained that Anupam Kher is a brilliant actor, but since it was his first English film, Gurinder had to give him a note.

When Gurinder said

Gurinder Chadha revealed that Anupam Kher used to act larger than life on the big screen in Bollywood.

She didn’t know how to tell the legend that he needed to tone down his acting style.

So, she left a small note that read: “Put your hands in your pockets.”

This meant he had to control his hand gestures a bit to appear more natural for his role. Kher also fondly recalled this incident.

A Big Hint of a Sequel Return!

The biggest headline from this reunion is that Anupam Kher expressed his hope to work with Gurinder again.

This strongly hints that he may return for a sequel to Bend It Like Beckham!

Gurinder also wrote in her caption, “Will he be coming back as Mr. Bhambra? Watch this space.”

Gurinder has already confirmed that a sequel is in the works and is planned for release in 2027, coinciding with the original film’s 25th anniversary.

So, seeing Mr. Bhambra back on screen will be a treat for fans!
