“Not in his place to comment.”
At the trailer launch of “Son of Sardaar 2” on Friday, Ajay Devgn cautiously responded to questions on the heated controversy surrounding Diljit Dosanjh and Pakistani actress Hania Aamir’s collaboration in “Sardarji 3”.
Controversy explained
The storm began last month when Diljit released the trailer of “Sardarji 3”, which released overseas on June 27 but did not hit Indian cinemas.
The casting of Pakistani star Hania Aamir led to outrage, especially after the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
Ajay’s balanced response
“I don’t know where the trolling comes from or what is right and what is wrong,” Devgn told reporters.
“I am not in his place to comment. He must have had his own problems, and people are thinking from their own perspective.”
Rather than taking sides, Ajay emphasised on the dialogue: “When you have two different viewpoints, you can sit down and solve it together.
I won’t blame anyone… they need to have a conversation.”
Widespread response
The controversy has gone beyond social media, with politicians and major trade unions such as the All Indian Cine Workers Association and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees condemning Diljit’s decision to work with the Pakistani actress.
Language controversy? “Aata maajhi satakali!”
When asked about Maharashtra’s ongoing language controversy, in which Hindi has been made compulsory in state-run schools, Ajay cleverly evaded with his famous “Singham” dialogue: “The only answer I will give you about language is aata maajhi satakali.”
Return to comedy after six years
Talking about lighter subjects, Devgn expressed his excitement about returning to comedy: “I didn’t realise I was doing a comedy after six years, but it was a lot of fun making this film.
When we decided to make Son of Sardaar 2, the comic element had to be more than the first part, and we are glad we crafted such a script.”
Sunny Deol connection
The trailer shows Ajay imitating Sunny Deol’s character from “Border”, sharing personal memories with him: “He’s my neighbour.
When we were young, Bobby and I were growing up together, and Sunny paaji was someone we looked up to.
We still talk about the punches he throws on screen; nobody can beat him.”
Star-studded sequel
Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, “Son of Sardaar 2” features a stellar cast including Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Mrunal Thakur and the late Mukul Dev in his final role before he passed away in May.
The comedy will release in theatres on July 25 and is produced by Ajay himself along with Jyoti Deshpande, N.R. Pachisia and Pravin Talreja.
