When Reena’s parents came to know about their relationship, they made Reena promise to stay away from Aamir.

A Secret Wedding, which changed everything

“I first read the Special Marriage Act to understand whether what Reena and I were planning was legally okay or not,” Aamir told.

In April 1986, just two days after turning 21, he legally married Reena.

Only his friend Satya, Satya’s wife Swati, and cousin Anand were the witnesses.

The newly married couple kept their marriage a secret and both returned to their respective homes.

When the secret got out

Bubble was surprised when Reena finally told the truth to her sister Anu, who was obviously shocked.

Now that Reena’s parents had come to know, Aamir thought that he should tell his family too.

“I called all the family members to give them the news. My parents thought she was just my girlfriend.

They were embarrassed,” Aamir recalled. Instead of being afraid of his father’s anger, something unexpected happened: “My father got up and hugged me.

He said, ‘Now you both are married, what is the tension now?'”

Family Drama Started

The real drama started when he went to meet Reena’s family. Her mother’s words touched the heart: “You don’t come here. We don’t want to meet you. You are married now. Be happy.”

This cold treatment continued for four months. Reena was broken. Then a health crisis changed everything.

Heart Attack and Healing of Relationships

“Reena’s father had a heart attack and we rushed to the hospital,” Aamir shared. The emotional ICU visit became a turning point. Amidst tears and emotional moments, the ice started melting.

“He finally accepted me after spending some time with him. He said, ‘I should have met you the first time itself, I can see that I would never have found a better boy for Reena than you.'”

Family Bonds That Lasted Even More Than Marriage

Both families became so close that Aamir’s sister Farhat eventually married Reena’s brother Rajeev. The most touching thing is that even after Aamir and Reena’s divorce, Aamir’s relationship with Reena’s father remained strong.

“Even after our divorce, Reena’s father was very close to me and would only listen to me. We lost him last year to cancer,” Aamir revealed, indicating that some relationships go beyond marriage.
